Assessment of Cow Dung Pellets as a Renewable Solid Fuel in Direct Combustion Technologies

Recently, biomass application as a renewable energy source is increasing worldwide. However, its availability differs in dependence on the location and climate, therefore, agricultural residues cow dung (CD) are being considered to supply heat and/or power installation. This paper aims at wide evaluation of CD fuel properties prospect apply form pellets direct combustion installations. Therefore, proximate, ultimate composition calorific value were analyzed, then pelletization tests performed, ash characteristics tested. It was found that promising bioenergy terms LHV (16.34 MJ·kg?1), carbon (44.24%), fixed (18.33%) content. During pelletization, showed high compaction moisture content 18%,and received pellets’ bulk density reached ca. 470 kg·m?3 with kinetic durability 98.7%. While combustion, grate 25 kW boiler, emissions CO, SO2, NO, HCl observed. The future sector might be based this work shows novel approach potential available wherever cattle production located.
